The installation at Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts was exhibited in April 2018. The bedroom is reconstructed from material purchased from Becky, the pink-haired fan in the documentary. It has been rebuilt to be as close to the original as possible, and intends to give the exhibition visitor a chance to view the exhibition from the position of a fan. The sequence on the tablet is the section of the film which deals with Larry shipping.
Four projections played on the walls - the original Channel 4 documentary Crazy About One Direction; the found footage film This is Not Us, in which fans protest their representation in Youtube “rants”; a loop of Tweets in the hashtags #ThisIsNotUs and #RIPLarryShippers and a loop of Larry fan art by fans. The film cut from interviews with participants to previous documentaries, This is the Real Me, played intermittently for a seated audience.
Participants of my past documentaries were all invited to attend the installation.
